The cashier at my local grocery for the longest time kept asking me why I wouldn’t sign up for their loyalty program. “That’s how they collect telemetry data to figure out the maximum they can charge any individual for a given item. It’s called surveillance pricing.”

She doesn’t ask any more.

And here I thought I was the only tinfoil hat wearer who avoids loyalty plans like the plague for exactly this reason...

Ha ha, you're not alone. Though I totally get the tinfoil hat ref - 99% of people I tell this to look at me as though I'm a nutcase.

I mean, that's not unfair but in this case I'm not wrong.
